ReadMore Systems's CEO Announces New Version Of Online News Publishing System

Jun 05 2010

Cookeville, Tennessee – June 5, 2010 - We’ve been working on our online news publishing system since March of 2005. During this time we have served about twenty online newspapers, and we have listened to their suggestions and requests.

One of the most frequent of these requests has been for us to provide functionality that will allow our customers to control the way their news site looks on the front end without having to pay a programmer to create a new template for them every time they want to make a modification.

We’ve listened, and our customers can now create and modify their own templates without having to hire technical staff to do it. This is new in this industry, and we are excited about it. So are our existing customers who have served as incubators and testers of the new functions.

And our customers don’t have to learn any programming skills. With just a few clicks of the mouse they can move content boxes around the screen and add or delete columns and other display features.

We’ve also added new revenue centers to the software. Our customers can now have multiple polls active at the same time and can sell ads to appear in the polls and in the poll reports that readers typically view after voting in a poll.

Another new feature is what we call mouseover popups. Let’s say you have a regular book review section in your online newspaper, and you have a menu link to that section. You can attach a popup to the link so that when your reader mouses over the link to click it, a content box will pop up before the reader clicks. The newspaper can put any kind of content they wish into that box. It can be links to bookstores in the area, video, pictures of the local bookstore, an ad for the book being reviewed, and so on. You can do the same thing with the real estate section. The popup could be the deal of the week, or links to different agencies, or whatever you want it to be. Think student of the week, pet of the week, and on and on. And of course you can charge for these ads and links.

It is a fact that many large newspapers have failed in the recent past, and more are failing now. But it is also a fact that generally community newspapers are thriving because they serve the local news to a local audience and they sell to local advertisers. In other words, they meet the needs of a local community.

We’re acutely aware of the fact that community newspapers usually don’t have huge resources to pay for Internet technology and trained staff, so we’ve developed a system that enables them to publish online very economically without having to add any staff whatsoever, and the system gives them many different ways to make money focusing on local advertisers. We see the importance and the wisdom of meeting the needs of local communities, and we have designed our online news publishing system to do just that, and to do it very economically and very well.

We’re also acutely aware that the new media are changing the way that the news is delivered, and what used to be just an online newspaper now may very well be an online newspaper plus an Internet tv station (honest) offering live and recorded video, plus an Internet radio station, plus an extended community directory. ReadMore Systems includes all of this in our standard package.

We believe profoundly in the necessity and the power of a free press, and we want to make it as economical as possible for community newspapers, and even other news organizations, to adopt and use the new news modalities. An actively publishing newspaper can begin publishing online with our standard package for just one hundred dollars a month plus a very modest setup fee. Add multiple polling and it’s still only one hundred twenty-five dollars a month. And if you want all this plus unmonitored server space and bandwidth, it’s still only one hundred fifty dollars a month. That’s about the best anybody could ask for.

As always, upgrades and new versions are provided free to our existing customers.

ReadMore Systems, Incorporated has been providing publishing systems and hosting for online newspapers and news sites since 2005. Its CEO, Joseph Edwards, has been working with community newspapers in the United States and Australia since September, 2005 and is also an actively practicing lawyer in the Nashville, Tennessee area.
